International Women’s Day 2026
Happy International Women’s Day 2026 from the team at ERICA Women’s Centre.
At ERICA Women’s Centre, our mission is to meet and support women where they are, at every stage of life – empowering women, building confidence, and strengthening family and community connections.
We celebrate the courage, resilience, and achievements of all women. We also recognise that there is still a long way to go in creating safer, brighter futures for every woman and girl.
Our 2026 IWD celebrations began on Wednesday 4 March, when we welcomed local leaders to our centre to honour the stories and strength of remarkable women, and to reflect on the work being done, and the work still needed, to Balance the Scales in our community.
Noongar Elder Aunty Di Ryder opened the event with a moving Welcome to Country, sharing stories of her mother’s devotion, values, and legacy.
Our Patron, Mr Steve Catania MLA, spoke about the importance of IWD and gender equality.
CEO Linda Malone then introduced our guest speaker, author and former ballerina Petal Ashmole Winstanley, who shared her journey of adventure, creativity, grit, and resilience, and offered her perspective on this year’s theme, Balance the Scales, in conversation with our counsellor Louise.
We were also joined by partners Midlas, with CEO Angie Perkins highlighting the need for a fair and inclusive justice system for all women and girls, and Hon Klasey Hirst MLC, who spoke about economic independence as a key pillar for gender equality.
This week, we are focusing on acknowledging our clients for IWD. Women visiting our centre will have the chance to enter a raffle to win one of three prize packs, including a copy of Petal’s book Get Up, Dress Up, Show Up, generously donated by the author, along with other small treats. Our counsellors also have selfcare gift packs to share with clients throughout the week.
A heartfelt thank you to Midlas and Hon Klasey Hirst MLC for partnering with us on this event – everything ran smoothly and the feedback has been wonderful thanks to your generosity and support. We are already looking forward to what’s in store for next year!
Thank you also to our inspiring guest speaker Petal, to Aunty Di Ryder for her beautiful Welcome to Country, to Steve Catania for his continued support, to Mrs Michelle Maynard MLA and Mayor Tanya Richardson for attending and supporting our event, and to CWA Midland for providing the delicious catering. We appreciate you all!
